James Joyce is proven to be difficult task, but we have learn to just read a paragraph or two then to just discuss it. Through this way we can truly understand Joyce and all his ludicrous writing. We recommend however that before you read any of his works you get a good reading of his life here's some sites to check out........

After further contemplating the complex writing of James Joyce we have come to realize that we are way in over our heads with reading this complex book. No wait I'm lying this book is pretty cool to read. The ideas that are brought out in this book are very intriguing to look at. One thought we found was that Joyce's main character is going through flash backs from childhood to adulthood.

As we began our reading of James Joyce's book "A portrait of the artists as a young man" we already noticed certain points that we found interesting. First we found that he has no transitions in his text, and a veil over his words. Its like you have to read into it to truly understand his words. Also, Joyce uses real life images to challenge our thought to find what he is saying. One example is the different colored flowers on the chest of the young men. Spelling color as "colour" we found that Joyce was not referring to actual colors but to the emblems found on the young men. Coming to realize this we were able to recognize the setting to be a boarding school and the age of the young men to be young teens.
